**Munich, Germany** – A 24-year-old Afghan asylum seeker is under arrest following a car-ramming attack on a labor union demonstration in Munich on Thursday, February 13, 2025. The attack injured 36 people, two critically and eight seriously.

Authorities stated Friday that the suspect, who arrived in Germany in 2016, appears to have been motivated by Islamic extremism, though there’s no evidence of links to any radical networks. Prosecutor Gabriele Tilmann revealed that the suspect shouted “Allahu Akbar” after the incident and offered a religiously motivated explanation for his actions. He is being investigated on 36 counts of attempted murder, alongside charges of bodily harm and dangerous interference with road traffic.

Police apprehended the suspect after firing a warning shot at his vehicle. He had no prior criminal record. German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited the scene of the attack on Friday, laying flowers in tribute to the victims. The investigation is ongoing.
