**New Delhi, February 16, 2025** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the formation of a deregulation commission aimed at further reducing government intervention in all sectors. Speaking at an event on Saturday, Modi highlighted significant economic reforms undertaken by his government since 2014, emphasizing a shift from a “fear of business” to an “ease of doing business” environment.
The new commission is intended to minimize government interference in society, building upon the Jan Vishwas 2.0 initiative which simplifies existing compliances. Modi cited the opening of sectors like nuclear energy, space, and commercial mining to private investment as key steps towards economic growth. He expressed confidence in India’s role in the fourth industrial revolution.
The Prime Minister also lauded the success of the Svamitva Yojana, a scheme providing property rights documentation in rural areas. This initiative, utilizing drone technology, has unlocked an estimated ₹100 lakh crore worth of property, enabling access to bank loans and boosting rural economic activity. Over 2.25 lakh property cards have been issued following surveys of 3 lakh villages.
Modi highlighted significant poverty reduction, claiming 25 crore individuals have been lifted out of poverty, creating a new neo-middle class. He also pointed to the increase in the income tax threshold from ₹7 lakh to ₹12 lakh as a measure supporting this class.
Further achievements cited included the strengthening of the banking sector. Modi contrasted the current profitability of public sector banks (over ₹1.25 lakh crore profit in nine months) with the challenges faced a decade ago, highlighting the success of initiatives like Mudra Yojana, which has disbursed around ₹32 lakh crore in loans.
Modi sharply criticized the previous UPA government’s slow pace of reforms, contrasting it with the BJP government’s achievements, which he credits for India’s rise to the fifth largest economy globally, with a projected future ranking among the top three. He also emphasized improvements in the justice system through the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
