NELLORE, Andhra Pradesh (February 16, 2025) – Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu launched a major waste-to-wealth initiative on Saturday, February 15th, emphasizing the state’s commitment to creating wealth from waste and achieving zero poverty. The initiative, part of the ‘Swarnandhra – Swacchandhra’ program, includes the inauguration of a new 25-tonne-per-day material recycling facility center (MRFC) in Dubagunta, Nellore district.
The CM highlighted the importance of cleanliness, urging citizens to maintain personal and community hygiene and dedicate every third Saturday to achieving a “Swachh Andhra Pradesh.” He praised the work of NGOs promoting a circular economy and announced an annual award for the best-performing village head (sarpanch) to encourage cleanliness initiatives.
Naidu stressed the need for waste segregation, promoting composting of wet waste and recycling of dry waste, including electronic waste and construction debris. He advocated for organic farming and terrace gardening to reduce pesticide exposure. He stated that the government is tackling the state’s debt, viewing it as a temporary obstacle to achieving broader development goals. The new MRFC represents a significant step toward achieving these goals by diverting waste from landfills and creating economic opportunities.
