Thu Feb 13 10:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Severe Winter Storm Plunges 79,000 Appalachian Power Customers into Darkness
**ROANOKE, VA (WSLS)** – A major winter storm has left over 79,000 Appalachian Power (AEP) customers without electricity across southwest Virginia. The hardest-hit areas include Carroll, Franklin, Floyd, Roanoke, and Patrick counties. Heavy snow and significant ice accumulation, exceeding a quarter-inch in many places, have caused widespread damage to power lines and infrastructure, according to AEP spokesperson Ashley Workman.
Restoration efforts are underway, but some customers may remain without power until Friday. AEP’s restoration times represent the estimated time for 90% of customers in a given outage area to have power restored; individual restoration may occur sooner. The company is prioritizing critical infrastructure, such as hospitals and water treatment plants, before addressing larger residential outages.
To expedite the restoration process, AEP has brought in extra crews from 11 states. For updated outage information and to report an outage, visit [insert link here].
