Thu Feb 13 11:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Winter Storm Brings Mixed Precipitation, Potential for Icy Roads in Northeastern Pennsylvania
**SCRANTON, PA** – Northeastern Pennsylvania is bracing for another winter storm bringing a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain overnight into Thursday morning. The National Weather Service has issued a Weather Impact Alert.
The storm, expected to impact the region Wednesday night, will initially bring light snow showers. However, rising temperatures will transition the precipitation to sleet and freezing rain, with the greatest impact expected in the Pocono Mountains and Southern Tier. Ice accumulation could exceed a tenth of an inch in these areas before sunrise, potentially creating hazardous driving conditions. Central Pennsylvania is expected to see negligible ice accumulation.
By Thursday morning, temperatures will rise above freezing, changing the precipitation to rain. Heavy rain is possible in central Pennsylvania, with accumulations of 0.3 to 0.4 inches expected. While the rain will melt any accumulated ice and snow, drivers should still be prepared for potential delays during the Thursday morning commute.
Later Thursday afternoon, colder temperatures will return, with a possibility of light snow flurries in Potter and Tioga Counties.
Looking ahead, Friday will be breezy and cold, with highs in the upper 20s and low 30s. Another winter storm is forecast for Saturday afternoon into Sunday, beginning as snow before transitioning to rain Sunday morning. Travelers should be prepared for potential delays during this period. To stay updated on the weather, download the WNEP app for real-time information.
