Washington, D.C. – Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to meet with Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk during his current visit to the United States. According to Reuters, citing unnamed sources familiar with the plans, the meeting may involve discussions regarding Starlink’s plans to launch satellite broadband services in India.
While Starlink has expressed interest in operating in India, and the Indian government supports Musk’s proposal for spectrum allocation rather than auction, Starlink’s license application remains under review. Sources indicate Musk is willing to address Indian security concerns, including data localization.
The meeting’s agenda may also include increased sourcing of electric vehicle components from India for Tesla, although the possibility of Tesla’s entry into the Indian market itself is unclear. This comes after Starlink’s recent setbacks in India, involving the seizure of two of its devices.
