Thu Feb 13 10:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Netflix Raises UK Subscription Prices Amid Record Subscriber Growth
**London, UK** – Netflix has announced a price increase for its UK subscribers, marking its first hike since October 2023. The most popular plan, the Standard subscription without ads, will see a £2 increase, rising to £12.99 per month. All other plans are also affected, with the Standard plan with ads increasing by £1 to £5.99, and the Premium plan rising by £1 to £18.99. Extra member add-ons will also become more expensive.
The streaming giant cited the need to continue investing in programming and deliver more value to its members as the reason for the price hike. This follows similar increases in the US, Canada, Argentina, and Portugal last month.
Despite the price increase, Netflix reported record-breaking global subscriber numbers at the end of 2024, exceeding expectations by a significant margin. The company added nearly 19 million subscribers in the final quarter of the year, driven by the success of shows like the second season of *Squid Game* and the expansion of its sports coverage, which included NFL games and a boxing match.
This surge in subscribers contributed to a doubling of net profit compared to the same period in 2023, reaching $1.8 billion. Revenue also saw a substantial increase, rising from $8.8 billion to $10.2 billion.
Technology analyst Paolo Pescatore commented that the price increase was anticipated, mirroring trends in traditional television. However, he cautioned that Netflix needs to be careful not to alienate customers with excessive price hikes. The company is not alone in increasing subscription costs, with other streaming giants like Disney+, Spotify, and Paramount+ also raising prices globally in 2024. Netflix’s password-sharing crackdown, implemented in May 2023, also contributed to the subscriber growth.
