PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl champions once again, defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX. To celebrate, the city will host a massive parade on Friday, February 14th, a Valentine’s Day extravaganza expected to draw over one million people.
The parade will begin at 11 a.m. at Broad and Pattison Avenues, outside Lincoln Financial Field, and proceed north on Broad Street towards City Hall before culminating at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. A formal program with speeches from Eagles players, coaches, and Mayor Cherelle Parker is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the Art Museum.
Fifteen jumbotrons will be placed along the route, and ASL translators will be present on stage. Accessibility features include a designated wheelchair area at Eakins Oval and a mobile sensory unit for the autism community. Extensive road closures will be in effect, starting as early as Tuesday, with details available on the city’s website.
Public transportation will be significantly impacted. SEPTA will offer increased service but with some line closures and modifications. Rides on the Broad Street and Market-Frankford lines will be free, courtesy of Kevin Hart’s tequila brand. Regional Rail will have limited service, and PATCO will operate modified service. Detailed transit information is available on SEPTA and PATCO websites.
City officials urge attendees to plan for limited cell service and dress warmly, with a high of 36 degrees forecast. They also stress the importance of responsible celebration, following incidents of vandalism and assault after Sunday’s game. Schools in the Philadelphia area will be closed for the parade.
The city is taking significant steps to ensure public safety, activating the Emergency Operations Center and deploying numerous law enforcement agencies. This year’s parade follows the tragic events of last year’s Chiefs parade, where a shooting left one dead and many injured.
For those unable to attend, WHYY.org will livestream the parade, and the Regal King of Prussia movie theater will also offer a free live viewing. The city encourages residents to text READYEAGLES to 888777 for updates.
