Thu Feb 13 10:57:34 UTC 2025: **Andhra Pradesh Declares Biosecurity Zones After Bird Flu Outbreak**

Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh – February 13, 2025 – The Andhra Pradesh government has declared four areas as biosecurity zones following the detection of avian influenza (bird flu) cases. The affected areas are Badampudi in Eluru district, Velpuru and Kanuru in West Godavari district, and Gampalagudem in Krishna district.

Minister for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Kinjarapu Atchannaidu, announced the measures, stating they are in line with central government guidelines. A three-tiered security system has been implemented, with a “red zone” within a one-kilometer radius of affected villages where movement is restricted. A surveillance area extends to ten kilometers, with no restrictions beyond that radius.

The government has formed rapid response teams to contain the spread of the virus. While the Minister assured the public that chicken and eggs from unaffected areas are safe for consumption, he advised residents of affected areas to consume only boiled eggs and cooked chicken. The Animal Husbandry Department attributes the outbreak to migratory birds. The Minister also refuted reports of human infection, calling them misinformation. District collectors have been instructed to monitor the situation closely and decide on the serving of eggs in midday meals.
