**Lucknow, February 12, 2025** – Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been summoned to appear in court on March 24th to face charges of defamation. The summons stem from a complaint filed by lawyer Vivek Tiwari on behalf of Uday Shankar Srivastava, a former Border Roads Organisation director, concerning alleged defamatory remarks made by Mr. Gandhi.
The remarks, reportedly made to the media on December 16, 2022, during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, allegedly targeted the Indian Army’s handling of a December 9th, 2022 clash with Chinese forces. The complainant alleges the statements were derogatory and defamed the Indian Army. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Alok Verma will preside over the March 24th hearing.
