**Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, February 12, 2025** – Millions of devotees converged on the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj for the sacred Maghi Purnima bath, marking a significant event in the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela. The holy dip, which began early Wednesday morning, saw a massive influx of pilgrims, concluding the month-long Kalpavas ritual for approximately one million participants.
Elaborate security and crowd control measures were implemented by Uttar Pradesh authorities to manage the immense crowds. Police reported smooth movement of devotees, citing extensive preparations similar to those undertaken for the Basant Panchami snan. Additional police deployment at key locations and ongoing briefings to pilgrims aimed to ensure a safe and orderly experience.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended his greetings to the devotees and residents of Uttar Pradesh, expressing wishes for happiness and prosperity. He is reportedly monitoring the event closely from a war room established at his Lucknow residence.
To facilitate crowd management, the fair area was declared a no-vehicle zone from early Tuesday morning, extending to the entire city from 5 pm onwards. Designated parking lots were established to mitigate traffic congestion, and real-time data from toll plazas and neighboring districts is being utilized to monitor vehicle movements.
Devotees expressed satisfaction with the government’s arrangements, praising the smooth organization and ample provisions. The state transport department deployed 1,200 additional shuttle buses to assist with the return journey of pilgrims.
Officials announced that the Maha Kumbh Mela, which commenced on January 13, has attracted over 450 million visitors to date. The event is scheduled to conclude on February 26, with the final Amrit Snan coinciding with Mahashivratri. The government acknowledged a stampede on January 29 that resulted in 30 fatalities and 60 injuries.
