Wed Feb 12 15:11:07 UTC 2025: ## Grand Cauvery Aarti Held at Kumbh Mela, Permanent Ritual Planned
**Mysuru, Karnataka, February 12, 2025** – A spectacular Cauvery Aarti, mirroring the famous Ganga Aarti, was performed for the first time at the 13th Kumbh Mela in T. Narsipur on Tuesday evening. The event, held at the Snana Ghat near Sri Agastheshwara Temple, drew a large crowd of devotees who chanted slogans in support of the Cauvery and Kapila rivers.
Nine priests from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, conducted the ceremony, which was attended by prominent figures including religious leaders, ministers, and government officials. The Karnataka government plans to make the Cauvery Aarti a permanent fixture, potentially at locations like Brindavan Gardens, to boost tourism.
The initiative follows a visit by a team of legislators and officials to Varanasi and Haridwar last year to study the Ganga Aarti. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar initially announced the plan last July, and while a symbolic launch was planned for Dasara in Srirangapatna, this Kumbh Mela event marks the first full-scale performance. A detailed report on implementing the Cauvery Aarti has been submitted to the government.
