**Gadchiroli, Maharashtra – February 12, 2025** – A police inspector with Maharashtra’s elite C-60 commando unit, Mahesh Kavdu Nagulwar (39), was killed in an exchange of fire with Naxalites in Gadchiroli district on Tuesday. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed the death, praising Inspector Nagulwar’s sacrifice in the fight against Naxalism.

The encounter occurred during a joint operation by 18 C-60 units and two CRPF QAT units targeting a Naxalite camp in the Fulnar forest area. While the operation successfully destroyed the camp and resulted in the seizure of various items, Inspector Nagulwar sustained fatal bullet wounds. He was airlifted to a Gadchiroli hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Chief Minister Fadnavis announced a state funeral and Rs 2 crore in financial assistance for Nagulwar’s family, along with other benefits and support. He expressed solidarity with the family and lauded the officer’s dedication. The last rites are scheduled for Wednesday in Nagulwar’s home village. The incident underscores the ongoing struggle against Naxalite insurgency in the region.
