NEW DELHI (The Hindu) – The 2025 Tulip Festival, inaugurated Tuesday at Shanti Path in Delhi’s Chanakyapuri, showcases a vibrant display of 3.25 lakh tulips, highlighting the growing friendship between India and the Netherlands.
Delhi Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena and the Netherlands Ambassador, H.E. Marisa Gerards, jointly inaugurated the festival, participating in a tulip walk and symbolically naming a tulip “Maitri,” signifying the blossoming friendship between the two nations. A significant portion of the tulips – 14.6 lakh – were planted at Shanti Path, with additional bulbs spread across 20 DDA-maintained parks. Interestingly, 15,000 tulips were cultivated domestically in Himachal Pradesh’s Palanpur.
Lt. Governor Saxena expressed his ambition to reduce reliance on tulip imports within the next four years, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to beautify Delhi. The NDMC’s initiative, which began with 17,000 tulips in 2017-18, has expanded significantly. Over one lakh tulip bulbs are available for sale to the public at various locations across the city.
