Sun Feb 09 19:55:35 UTC 2025: ## Manipur Police Recover Most Weapons Stolen in KCP Raid

**Imphal, Manipur –** Manipur Police have recovered the majority of weapons and ammunition stolen during a Saturday night raid on a police outpost in Thoubal district. Around 30 armed militants, suspected to be members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), overpowered officers at the Kakmayai outpost and made off with six SLRs, three AK rifles, and a large quantity of ammunition.

Following a swift response, police launched a search operation, arresting one KCP cadre, Hijam Ningthem Singh (49). Subsequent searches yielded three AK rifles and five SLRs, along with a significant cache of ammunition, including 48 live rounds of Insas and AK ammunition, grenades, and various other munitions. A KCP hideout was also busted in the Langathel Chingkhong area, where police recovered further ammunition, a vehicle, bulletproof vests, helmets, and military fatigues.

The recovery follows a larger pattern of arms looting in Manipur. Official reports indicate over 6,000 weapons were stolen from police stations and outposts during the ethnic riots that began in May 2023. While a considerable amount has been recovered, authorities continue their search for the remaining weapons. The recovered arms are believed to have fueled the ongoing violence in the state.

The incident occurred just one day before Chief Minister N. Biren Singh submitted his resignation. Singh, along with other officials, had previously called on those who looted weapons to return them, warning of legal action.
