Sun Feb 09 17:36:01 UTC 2025: ## BJP Wins Delhi Assembly Elections in Landslide Victory

**New Delhi, February 9, 2025** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a resounding victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, ending the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) decade-long rule. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the BJP’s campaign, framing the election as a choice between the AAP’s perceived failures and the BJP’s promise of development. The BJP’s strategy centered on portraying the AAP government as corrupt and ineffective, leveraging a narrative built over the past three years.

A key element of the BJP’s strategy was the appointment of Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena in May 2022. Saxena’s actions, including recommending a CBI probe into the Delhi excise policy – which resulted in the arrests of AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia – significantly damaged the AAP’s image. The subsequent 2025 Delhi election saw both Kejriwal and Sisodia lose their seats.

Further bolstering the BJP’s campaign was a May 2023 ordinance that effectively negated a Supreme Court ruling granting the Delhi government more control over bureaucrats. This move placed top officials under the direct control of the L-G, hindering the AAP’s governance and fueling accusations of central government interference.

The BJP focused its campaign on issues highlighted by residents, including the poor condition of roads, sewage, and drinking water. While the AAP attempted to address these concerns, its efforts proved insufficient to counteract the BJP’s narrative.

Following the BJP’s victory, Prime Minister Modi declared it a “historic win,” stating the people of Delhi had rejected the AAP and its perceived mismanagement. The BJP’s campaign, characterized by the term “AAP-da” (AAP-disaster), successfully painted a picture of widespread dissatisfaction with the AAP’s governance, ultimately securing a significant electoral win.
