Sun Feb 09 15:39:49 UTC 2025: ## Congress’s Lone Wolf Strategy Yields Mixed Results in Delhi Assembly Elections

**New Delhi, [Date]** – Despite a complete shutout in the recent Delhi Assembly elections, the Indian National Congress (INC) claims its “lone wolf” strategy is paying off in the long run. While the party won zero seats and became the butt of numerous online memes, its voter share increased to 6.39%, up from 4.3% in 2020. This, the party argues, demonstrates progress in its rebuilding efforts after significant losses since the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

The Congress chose to contest the elections independently, rejecting alliances with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate stated that the party’s responsibility is to fight its own campaign, not to bolster AAP’s victory. While this strategy didn’t yield seats in Delhi, the party points to other state elections as evidence of its effectiveness.

In Haryana’s 2019 Assembly election, the Congress increased its vote share to 40% from 28% after contesting alone. Similarly, in Telangana’s 2023 election, the party saw its vote share jump to 40% from 28.7%. Even in Assam’s Lok Sabha elections, the Congress’s independent approach led to a rise in voter share from 36% to 38%.

Although the increased voter share doesn’t always translate directly into a proportional number of seats won, the Congress maintains that it demonstrates a growing base of support. The party attributes this to regaining support among Dalit and OBC communities, particularly after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The party acknowledges the difficulties ahead, emphasizing the long and challenging path to recovery. However, the Congress views the Delhi results not as a setback, but rather as a data point in its larger strategy of independent campaigning and rebuilding its political strength.
