Sun Feb 09 01:13:48 UTC 2025: ## Kim Jong Un Vows Countermeasures Against US-Japan-South Korea Military Cooperation

**Seoul, February 9, 2025** – North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has condemned the trilateral military cooperation between the United States, Japan, and South Korea, vowing further development of his country’s nuclear forces as a countermeasure. In a statement released Sunday by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim criticized the joint military exercises and deployment of US strategic assets as destabilizing the regional balance and posing a serious security threat.

Kim’s remarks followed a visit to the Ministry of National Defence on Saturday, coinciding with the Korean People’s Army’s founding day. He reiterated North Korea’s commitment to strengthening its nuclear capabilities, despite US President Donald Trump’s stated desire to engage in relations with Pyongyang. Trump, after a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, expressed concerns over North Korea’s nuclear program.

Furthermore, Kim expressed unwavering support for Russia in its war against Ukraine, highlighting the DPRK-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership treaty. This statement comes amidst South Korean suspicions that North Korea has, or is preparing to, send additional troops to support Russia’s military efforts, adding to the approximately 11,000 already deployed.

KCNA further criticized the increased intensity of South Korea and US military exercises, warning of “undesired consequences” should aggressive actions continue. The agency argued that these drills were particularly provocative given the cancellation of diplomatic schedules due to political instability. While stating North Korea does not desire unnecessary regional tension, Kim’s pronouncements clearly indicate a significant escalation of the country’s military posture.
