**New Delhi, February 9, 2025** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has achieved a resounding victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, securing a commanding majority and ending the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) seven-year rule. The BJP won 48 seats, while the AAP secured 22. The Congress party failed to win a single seat.
The election results mark a significant shift in Delhi’s political landscape. Key AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Saurabh Bhardwaj, and Somnath Bharti, suffered narrow defeats. However, Atishi secured a win for AAP in Kalkaji.
Several politicians who switched parties before the election saw success. Former AAP minister Kailash Gahlot (now with BJP) and Congress defectors Zubair Ahmed and Arvinder Singh Lovely won their respective seats. Conversely, former AAP minister Raj Kumar Anand, who joined the BJP, lost.
The BJP secured 45.56% of the vote share, slightly ahead of the AAP’s 43.57%. Several prominent BJP figures, including Parvesh Verma and Kapil Mishra, won comfortably. However, BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri faced an unexpected defeat in Kalkaji.
The BJP’s landslide victory signals a new chapter in Delhi’s politics. Speculation is rife regarding the party’s choice for the next Chief Minister.
