**Bengaluru, India** – Global superstar Ed Sheeran’s Mathematics Tour took an unexpected turn on February 9th when Bengaluru police briefly interrupted his impromptu sidewalk performance on Church Street. Sheeran, in town for scheduled concerts, began playing his hit song “Shape of You” to a growing crowd. Though the performance was cut short after about a minute when police disconnected his microphone, Sheeran later clarified on Instagram that all necessary permissions had been obtained for the busking event.
A short video of the incident quickly circulated on social media, showing the police officers, apparently unaware of the singer’s identity, stopping the performance due to a perceived lack of permits. The incident occurred before Sheeran’s scheduled concert at NICE Grounds, a show that followed a previously announced additional date due to high ticket demand. Bengaluru is the only Indian city hosting back-to-back Sheeran concerts on this tour.
Despite the brief interruption, Sheeran expressed continued enthusiasm for performing in India, stating it is one of his largest markets. His Mathematics Tour, spanning multiple Indian cities, marks his return to the country after performances in 2015 and 2017. The tour continues with remaining shows scheduled in Shillong and Delhi-NCR.
