Sun Feb 09 15:34:53 UTC 2025: ## Coimbatore Forest Department Provides Water Troughs for Wildlife

**Coimbatore, February 9, 2025** – The Coimbatore Forest Department has implemented a proactive measure to prevent human-wildlife conflict by providing water to animals during the dry season. 101 water troughs, including two newly constructed ponds, have been set up across the seven forest ranges of the division. These troughs are regularly filled with water, with approximately 30 equipped with solar-powered bore wells eliminating the need for manual water transportation.

The initiative aims to reduce instances of wild animals, particularly elephants, leaving the forest in search of water and venturing into agricultural lands, leading to potentially dangerous interactions with humans. The water sources benefit a wide range of wildlife, including birds and reptiles.

District Forest Officer N. Jayaraj stated that the project includes two ponds funded through corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. He further invited companies and NGOs to contribute to the creation of more water troughs through CSR programs, or to sponsor the ongoing maintenance of existing ones.
