**New Delhi, February 8, 2025** – A wave of criticism has engulfed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Atishi after a video surfaced showing her celebrating her victory in the Kalkaji constituency despite the party’s resounding defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections. The BJP secured a landslide victory, winning 48 out of 70 seats, while AAP’s tally plummeted from 62 to 22.
Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal, a former Kejriwal associate, strongly condemned Atishi’s celebratory dance, calling it a “shameless display” given the party’s overall loss and the defeat of several key AAP leaders, including Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal himself. Maliwal shared the video on X (formerly Twitter) expressing her outrage.
Atishi, who secured a second consecutive term by defeating BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri by a margin of 3,521 votes, was one of the few AAP senior leaders to retain their seats. Other prominent AAP figures, such as Manish Sisodia and Saurabh Bharadwaj, lost their bids for re-election.
Maliwal, now a vocal AAP critic, blamed Kejriwal’s leadership style for the party’s downfall, accusing him of arrogance and a lack of internal democracy. She stated that Kejriwal’s actions had alienated the party’s base and ultimately led to the electoral defeat. Maliwal’s criticism follows a previous allegation in May 2024 where she accused a close aide of Kejriwal of assaulting her at the Chief Minister’s residence.
The Delhi elections saw a significant shift in power, ending the BJP’s near three-decade absence from the Delhi assembly. The Congress party, meanwhile, failed to win a single seat for the third consecutive election.
