Sun Feb 09 09:58:29 UTC 2025: ## Andhra Pradesh Tribal Community Faces Exorbitant Electricity Bills

**Visakhapatnam, February 9, 2025** – Residents of Doravanipalem panchayat in Anakapalli district, Andhra Pradesh, are reeling from shockingly high electricity bills, with some families receiving bills exceeding ₹1 lakh. Forty-eight families belonging to the Konda Dora tribe have reported bills ranging from ₹5,000 to a staggering ₹1.60 lakh.

Two families, those of Dola Lakhsmi and Gadi Kondamma, received bills of ₹1.60 lakh and ₹29,913 respectively. Ms. Lakhsmi, whose son’s name is on the connection, stated their minimal electricity usage consisted of only a bulb and a television. Ms. Kondamma’s late husband’s name is on her connection.

Meter readers are accused of delivering the bills and threatening disconnections if payments are not made promptly. The affected tribal community is demanding government intervention and a reduction in their bills. CPI(M) district secretariat member K. Govinda Rao has called for free electricity up to 200 units for tribal families and for the government to cover the outstanding amounts. A protest is planned for Tuesday, February 11th, at the EPDCL office in Ravikamatham.
