Sun Feb 09 17:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Australia Complete Dominant Sri Lanka Whitewash

**Galle, Sri Lanka:** Australia have achieved a resounding 2-0 Test series victory over Sri Lanka, securing their first clean sweep of a subcontinent series in nearly 20 years. Chasing a modest 75 runs in the second Test, Australia reached the target with ease, losing only one wicket. Marnus Labuschagne hit the winning run, sealing a dominant performance.

Stand-in captain Steve Smith starred with two centuries, while spinner Matt Kuhnemann claimed a series-leading 16 wickets. A 259-run partnership between Alex Carey (156) and Smith (131) proved pivotal in Australia’s success. While Sri Lanka offered more resistance in the second Test compared to the first, their efforts were ultimately insufficient.

Smith, who also became the fifth player to take 200 Test catches and the first Australian to achieve the feat, suffered an elbow injury during the match, raising concerns ahead of upcoming tournaments. The injury, a reaggravation of a previous ailment, adds to Australia’s injury woes, with several key players already sidelined.

Despite the injury concern, the victory capped off a remarkable summer for Australia, following their historic Test series win against India. Their next challenge is the World Test Championship Final against South Africa in June.
