**NEW DELHI** – The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the notification for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2025, setting the exam date for May 4th. Applications are open until March 7th at neet.nta.nic.in.
This year’s exam will see several key changes. Most significantly, the test will revert to its pre-COVID format, abandoning the optional questions in Section B and the accompanying extended time allowance. The exam will be a single-shift, pen-and-paper test, a decision attributed to logistical challenges and the large number of rural students participating. Tie-breaking will now involve a random process overseen by an independent expert committee as a last resort.
Candidates must select three city preferences for their exam center, limited to their state of permanent or present address. The application process requires uploading scanned images of a recent photograph, signature, fingerprints, and relevant certificates. An APAAR ID is not mandatory for registration. The exam will be offered in 13 languages.
The NTA has also clarified the tie-breaking criteria, prioritizing candidates based on scores in Biology, then Chemistry, then Physics, and finally, on the proportion of correct versus incorrect answers attempted in each subject. Only if all other criteria are exhausted will a random tie-breaker be employed.
The NEET UG 2025 results are expected to be declared by June 14th. The NTA will release admit cards by May 1st. While the exact number of applicants is yet to be confirmed, officials anticipate a significant increase from last year’s 23 lakh. The syllabus remains unchanged and focuses on conceptual understanding rather than rote memorization.
