Sat Feb 08 05:17:58 UTC 2025: ## BJP Takes Early Lead in Delhi Assembly Election Results

**New Delhi, February 8, 2025** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) surged ahead in early trends of the Delhi Assembly election results, leading in over 40 seats just an hour after vote counting began at 8 am today. While initial reports showed the BJP crossing the majority mark of 36 seats, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) narrowed the gap throughout the morning, leading in over 30 seats by 10:30 am.

The counting of votes for all 70 assembly seats, following Wednesday’s election which saw a 60.54% voter turnout, started with postal ballots. Early trends, however, proved volatile, with significant swings in seat leads for both major parties. While BJP celebrated early leads, the AAP’s gains throughout the morning kept the race close.

Prominent AAP leaders, including Chief Minister Atishi and Manish Sisodia, were initially trailing in their respective constituencies, but the situation remained fluid. Arvind Kejriwal, AAP’s supremo, maintained a lead in the New Delhi seat.

The Congress party, meanwhile, remained far behind, failing to secure a lead in any constituency by mid-morning. Exit polls, released earlier this week, had predicted a comfortable BJP victory and a significant loss for the AAP. However, these initial results cast some doubt on the accuracy of those predictions.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) is continuously updating the results on its website, https://results.eci.gov.in. The final results are expected to be announced later today. Further updates will follow as the vote count progresses.
