Thu Feb 06 18:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Hoosiers’ Losing Streak Deepens, Postseason Hopes Fade
**MADISON, Wis.** – The Indiana Hoosiers men’s basketball team suffered a crushing 76-64 defeat at the hands of No. 21 Wisconsin on Tuesday, extending their losing streak to four games and severely jeopardizing their NCAA tournament aspirations. The loss drops Indiana to 14-9 overall and 5-7 in the Big Ten.
Coach Mike Woodson pointed to a lack of toughness as the primary reason for the team’s struggles. “We’re just not a tough team right now,” Woodson stated. “Mentally we’re not tough.”
The Hoosiers dug themselves an insurmountable hole early, falling behind 19-2 in the first four and a half minutes. Wisconsin’s 7-footers, Steven Crowl and Nolan Winter, exploited Indiana’s interior defense, hitting early three-pointers. Woodson criticized his team’s big men, Malik Reneau and Oumar Ballo, for their inability to contain Wisconsin’s size advantage.
While Indiana showed flashes of competitiveness in recent losses to Northwestern, Maryland, and Purdue, the Wisconsin game marked a significant regression. The team’s performance prompted questions about Woodson’s future, especially considering the Hoosiers’ failure to make the NCAA tournament last season.
With eight games remaining, including a crucial home matchup against No. 24 Michigan on Saturday, Indiana faces a daunting task to salvage its postseason hopes. Five of those games will be played on home court, offering a potential lifeline.
Woodson acknowledged the uphill battle ahead. “It’s not rocket science,” he said. “Right now, our backs are against the wall. We’re not playing great basketball. We’re playing in spurts.” He expressed hope that finding a way to reignite his team’s confidence could turn their fortunes around.
