**NEW DELHI** – Zomato’s announcement to rename its parent company to Eternal Ltd. sparked a wave of online confusion and humor on Thursday. While the move signals the company’s expansion beyond food delivery, many users initially feared a rebranding of the popular Zomato app itself.
CEO Deepinder Goyal’s announcement, which hinted at broader business diversification, led to widespread speculation on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter). Users reacted with a mix of bewilderment and witty commentary, with some joking about eternally pending refunds and comparing the situation to long-term, uncommitted relationships.
Zomato quickly clarified the situation, reassuring users that the food delivery app would remain unchanged. “Guys, Eternal is the parent company—the app will remain Zomato,” the company stated on X.
The name change to Eternal Ltd. reflects Zomato’s strategic shift, driven in part by the acquisition of quick-commerce platform Blinkit, according to Goyal’s letter to shareholders. The company aims to expand its operations into multiple business areas beyond its core food delivery service.
Meanwhile, in separate news, Delhivery, a logistics company, announced the appointment of Vani Venkatesh as its new Chief Business Officer. Venkatesh, a former Airtel Global CEO, brings extensive experience from various industries, including leadership roles at McKinsey, Unilever, and Abbott Nutrition. She will oversee key business units at Delhivery.
