**TIRUNELVELI, Tamil Nadu – February 6, 2025** – Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated India’s largest solar cell and module manufacturing unit today at the Gangaikondan SIPCOT Industrial Growth Centre. The ₹3,800 crore (approximately $460 million USD) facility, established by TP Solar Limited, a subsidiary of Tata Power, boasts a 4.30-GW capacity and will employ over 2,000 people, with a significant portion being women from the Tirunelveli region.

The state-of-the-art facility utilizes advanced TOPCon and Mono Perc technology, also producing some raw materials for module manufacturing. The facility is expected to significantly boost India’s solar energy production capacity, providing solar cells and modules for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.

Tata Sons chairman N. Chandrasekaran thanked the Tamil Nadu government for its support, highlighting the opportunity to provide employment for local women. Tata Power’s Managing Director and CEO, Praveer Sinha, praised the government’s efficiency in facilitating the factory’s construction within two years.

In a further boost to the state’s solar energy sector, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for a second major facility: Vikram Solar’s 3-GW solar cell and 6-GW module manufacturing unit, representing a ₹2,574 crore investment and creating over 2,000 jobs. The rapid land acquisition by the district administration facilitated the establishment of both projects. The event was attended by several ministers, officials, and local representatives.
