Fri Feb 07 06:58:42 UTC 2025: ## MP Urges Goyal for Coffee Board Satellite Office in Mangaluru to Boost Coffee Cultivation

**Mangaluru, February 7, 2025** – Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta has requested Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal to establish a satellite office of the Coffee Board in Mangaluru. This, Chowta argues, is crucial for strengthening coffee cultivation in the district.

During a meeting in New Delhi on February 6th, Chowta emphasized the need for enhanced support to coffee farmers in Dakshina Kannada, following up on a previous parliamentary question. He sought an update on a Coffee Board feasibility study and requested the Ministry outline its next steps in supporting local coffee cultivation.

The proposed satellite office would provide crucial technical assistance, conduct awareness programs, and equip farmers with the necessary skills to improve both coffee production and their income.

Chowta also raised concerns about the plight of arecanut growers facing unfair competition from imported nuts. He highlighted the significant price drops and financial instability impacting thousands of growers due to this influx. He urged the establishment of a task force to investigate price fluctuations and quality differences, and to explore measures to shield domestic farmers from the negative effects of imports.

Chowta stressed the importance of supporting Dakshina Kannada’s farmers, who form a vital part of the local economy. Minister Goyal assured Chowta that the Ministry would examine these concerns and explore appropriate solutions to assist both coffee and arecanut growers in the region.
