**New Delhi:** The Delhi Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has launched an investigation into Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s claim that the BJP attempted to poach 16 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidates ahead of the February 8 vote count. The investigation follows a tense standoff outside Kejriwal’s residence, where ACB officers, acting on the orders of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, attempted to question the AAP leader.
AAP officials initially refused entry to the officers, claiming the investigation was politically motivated. The ACB subsequently sent a letter to Kejriwal, requesting his cooperation in the inquiry. The bureau has presented five key questions, demanding evidence to support Kejriwal’s allegations, including:
* Confirmation of an online post made by Kejriwal regarding the alleged poaching attempt.
* A list of the 16 candidates allegedly offered bribes.
* Contact details of those who made the alleged bribe offers.
* Supporting evidence of the bribe offers.
* An explanation as to why legal action shouldn’t be taken against those spreading potentially panic-inducing information.
The allegations stem from a claim by AAP MLA Mukesh Ahlawat, who said he was offered a ministerial position and ₹15 crore to defect to the BJP. Kejriwal subsequently expanded the claim to include 16 candidates, suggesting the BJP’s actions were a response to unfavorable exit polls.
The Delhi BJP has vehemently denied the allegations, attributing them to AAP’s frustration over an impending defeat and threatening legal action. Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva dismissed the claims as stemming from the party’s expected loss. Lieutenant Governor Saxena deemed the allegations serious enough to warrant a full investigation. The vote count for the Delhi elections is scheduled for Saturday.
