Thu Feb 06 22:01:03 UTC 2025: ## Young Irish Cricketer Banned for Illegal Bowling Action

**NEW DELHI** – Eighteen-year-old Irish cricketer Amy Maguire has been banned from international cricket due to an illegal bowling action. The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the ban after an assessment revealed her elbow extension exceeded the permitted 15 degrees.

Maguire was reported for a suspect action during Ireland’s first One Day International (ODI) against India in Rajkot on January 10th, where she took 3 wickets for 57 runs. A subsequent assessment at an ICC-accredited testing centre in Loughborough on January 21st confirmed the illegal action.

The ban will remain in effect until Maguire undergoes a reassessment and demonstrates a legal bowling action. This suspension unfortunately forced her withdrawal from the Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup in Malaysia.

Maguire, who made her international debut in 2023, has played 11 ODIs and 9 T20 Internationals, taking a total of 25 wickets. Her best bowling figures are 5 for 19 against England. While she can continue to bowl domestically until the reassessment, the ban marks a significant setback for the young bowler’s international career.
