Thu Feb 06 08:40:00 UTC 2025: **Nvidia’s RTX 5090 GPU: A Boon for Professionals, a Bane for Budgets**

**London, UK** – The release of Nvidia’s RTX 5090 GPU is causing a stir, not for its gaming prowess (though it excels there too), but for its exorbitant cost when integrated into professional workstations. While the suggested retail price is $2000, system builders are charging significantly more.

BizonTech’s ZX5500 workstation, featuring seven water-cooled RTX 5090 GPUs, commands nearly $102,000. This price reflects a significant markup on the individual GPU cost, making the cards account for over 83% of the total system price. A comparable system with RTX 4090 GPUs costs approximately $15,000 less.

This price hike is not unique to BizonTech. Limited supply is pushing up costs, as confirmed by Puget Systems President Jon Bach, who stated that supply constraints are expected to last at least until March. He added that Puget Systems’ relatively good stock is due to existing OEM relationships.

While creative professionals stand to benefit significantly from the RTX 5090’s superior performance in AI and creative tasks, the steep price tag raises concerns about accessibility. TechRadar’s John Loeffler called the card a “supercar” of GPUs, but also noted its excessive power consumption and potential overkill for most users, especially gamers.

The situation is further complicated by Nvidia’s rumored plans to release an even more powerful RTX 5090 variant with 96GB of GDDR7 memory, potentially pushing the price even higher. Industry experts speculate that this future model could cost upwards of $15,000, making it the most expensive graphics card ever. For now, however, the high cost of the current generation is already impacting creative professionals who must contend with the substantial costs associated with utilizing this leading-edge technology.
