Thu Feb 06 11:27:31 UTC 2025: ## BJP Condemns Akhilesh Yadav’s “Dead Election Commission” Remark

**New Delhi** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a scathing attack on Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday, following his declaration that the Election Commission of India (ECI) is “dead.” The BJP accused Yadav and the opposition of consistently targeting constitutional institutions after electoral losses.

BJP MP Sambit Patra condemned Yadav’s actions in Parliament, highlighting the SP’s display of a funeral shroud for the ECI. Patra described this as an unprecedented act, a grave assault on democracy, and demanded an apology from Yadav and the SP. He stated that the presentation of the shroud before Parliament Speaker was a blatant disregard for parliamentary decorum.

Yadav’s remarks followed allegations of voter ID card checks by police in Milkipur, Ayodhya, which he claimed were attempts to influence voters. While Yadav called for ECI intervention on X (formerly Twitter), Ayodhya police clarified that the checks were of booth agents’ IDs, not voters’, and urged Yadav to refrain from spreading misinformation.

BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal echoed Patra’s sentiments, asserting that this attack on the ECI is a recurring pattern among opposition parties following electoral defeats. He criticized Yadav’s statement, calling it unacceptable and underscoring the inappropriateness of such language directed at constitutional bodies. The BJP’s strong reaction underscores the escalating political tensions between the ruling party and the opposition.
