**UDHAGAMANDALAM, February 6, 2025** – Hundreds of protesters, led by Gudalur MLA Pon Jeyaseelan, staged a demonstration outside the office of the Deputy Director of the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR), P Arunkumar, on Wednesday. The protesters, who remained at the site until late evening, alleged that Mr. Arunkumar was obstructing projects and activities deemed detrimental to wildlife.
Police intervention ultimately persuaded the protesters to disperse. Their key demands included extending the operating hours of private jeep safaris within the reserve to 9 p.m. and lifting restrictions on transporting building materials through a designated elephant corridor within the MTR. The protest highlights ongoing tensions between conservation efforts and local economic interests in the region.
