Thu Feb 06 14:02:05 UTC 2025: ## Tribal Healer Urges Eco-Conscious Tourism at National Seminar

**VISAKHAPATNAM, Andhra Pradesh, February 6, 2025** – Padma Shri awardee Lakshmi Kutty, a renowned tribal healer from Kerala, called for responsible tourism in forest areas, urging visitors to leave behind plastic bags, mobile phones, and other gadgets. Speaking at a two-day national seminar on “Resilience and Reconstruction of Tribal Knowledge System” at Central Tribal University in Vizianagaram, Kutty emphasized the importance of connecting with nature and appreciating its inherent healing power.

Kutty, who treats thousands using medicinal plants, claimed a 98% success rate in treating chronic diseases with her plant-based remedies. She attributed the remaining 2% of unsuccessful cases to patients’ unhealthy habits like tobacco and alcohol consumption.

The seminar, attended by experts in medicinal plants and tribal affairs, highlighted the urgent need to preserve traditional knowledge. University Vice-Chancellor T.V. Kattimani emphasized the importance of environmental protection and pledged the university’s efforts, in conjunction with state and federal governments, to make villages near Araku plastic-free. Experts like Rathnamma and C. Madegowda stressed the vital role of preserving tribal knowledge. The seminar underscored the need for collaborative efforts between academics, experts, and government officials to achieve this goal.
