Thu Feb 06 16:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Oscar Winner Ke Huy Quan Initially Rejected Action Role in “Love Hurts”

**London, UK** – Oscar-winning actor Ke Huy Quan initially turned down the lead role in the upcoming action film *Love Hurts* twice before ultimately agreeing to star. Quan, known for his role in *Everything Everywhere All at Once*, revealed his hesitation stemmed from his initial misinterpretation of the character, Marvin Gable, a butt-kicking realtor. He felt the role was intended for a more traditionally “badass” action hero.

The producers of *Love Hurts*, 87North Productions (behind *John Wick* and *Bullet Train*), persevered, eventually convincing Quan that they envisioned a different kind of action hero – one who unexpectedly reveals his inner strength. The film, also starring Daniel Wu, Ariana DeBose, and Sean Astin, sees Marvin facing a Valentine’s Day crisis when a mysterious woman from his past re-enters his life, jeopardizing his peaceful existence and forcing him to confront his mobster brother.

Quan shared that he had to overcome his preconceived notions of what constitutes an action hero, stating he had “been conditioned all these years to think that an action hero needs to look a certain way.” He ultimately embraced the challenge, working with the filmmakers to tailor the role to his strengths.

*Love Hurts*, a Valentine’s Day-themed action film, hits theaters on February 7th.
