**New Delhi, February 5, 2025** – Most exit polls released today project a significant victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Delhi Assembly elections, potentially securing 35-50 seats out of 70. This would surpass the majority mark of 36 needed to form a government, marking a significant shift from the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) current dominance.
While some pollsters, including WeePreside and Mind Brink, predicted an AAP win, the majority point towards a BJP victory, potentially ending AAP’s two-term rule. The Congress is projected to suffer a humiliating defeat, with most polls predicting they will win fewer than three seats. Chanakya Strategies, for example, projected 39-44 seats for the BJP and 25-28 for the AAP. Matrize, however, predicted a closer contest between the two main contenders.
The final voter turnout was approximately 59.7%, with North East Delhi recording the highest at 66.25%. Vote counting will take place on February 8th.
Reactions to the exit polls have been mixed. BJP leaders expressed confidence, citing a “Modi wave” and predicting even higher seat numbers than those projected. AAP leaders, however, dismissed the polls, pointing to past inaccuracies and emphasizing their ground-level support. Congress representatives acknowledged a challenging performance but expressed some hope. Axis My India’s exit poll results are still pending.
The 2020 elections saw AAP winning a landslide victory with 62 seats, while the BJP secured 8. This year’s election results will determine whether the BJP can reclaim power in Delhi after a 27-year absence, or if AAP can secure a third consecutive term.
