Tue Feb 04 18:53:58 UTC 2025: **Village Assistant Arrested for Bribery in Tamil Nadu**
TIRUVANNAMALAIA, Tamil Nadu – A 48-year-old village assistant was arrested on Tuesday for demanding and accepting a bribe. K. Rajendran, employed in Kozhavoor village, was apprehended by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) for soliciting Rs 1,500 from a farmer, V. Narayanaswamy (63). The bribe was allegedly demanded in exchange for processing Narayanaswamy’s application under the Chief Minister’s Farmers Security Scheme, which provides a monthly allowance.
Narayanaswamy, seeking to enroll after his wife’s death, had applied in October 2023 but faced delays. Rajendran contacted him, demanding the full bribe upfront to expedite the application’s approval. Instead of paying, Narayanaswamy reported the incident to the DVAC, leading to Rajendran’s arrest in a sting operation. He has been charged with bribery and is currently in custody. Investigations are ongoing.
