**Verizon Expands Network Coverage with Satellite Technology Partnerships**
**NEW YORK, NY, January 31, 2025** – Verizon (VZ) announced today a significant expansion of its network coverage using satellite technology, aiming to eliminate remaining coverage gaps in remote locations. The company reported $134.8 billion in revenue for 2024 and currently claims to cover over 99% of where people live, work, and play.
This expansion involves strategic partnerships with several companies. Verizon is collaborating with Skylo for satellite messaging features and has entered into a $100 million strategic partnership with AST SpaceMobile to provide direct-to-cellular service. This partnership includes testing connections with Verizon smartphones using AST’s first five commercial BlueBird satellites in low Earth orbit, requiring no specialized software.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has authorized Verizon and AST to test satellite-to-phone connections for voice, data, and video applications. Verizon already utilizes nearly 300 satellite-based portable network assets for emergency situations and uses satellite connections for cell sites in remote areas lacking fiber infrastructure.
This initiative enhances Verizon’s existing network, providing reliable backup in emergencies and extending service to previously underserved areas. The company is leveraging its existing 850 MHz spectrum assets, maximizing resource efficiency.
The expansion marks a pivotal moment in telecommunications, positioning Verizon as a leader in satellite-to-cellular integration and promising potential revenue growth through reduced churn in rural markets and new service offerings.
