Tue Feb 04 08:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Samsung Galaxy S25 Launch Includes Unexpectedly Large Android 15 Update, Skipping January Security Patch

**Seoul, South Korea** – Samsung’s highly anticipated Galaxy S25 has arrived, launching with a surprise: a pre-loaded Android 15 update with One UI 7.0. However, the rollout has a notable flaw – the update includes only the December 2024 security patch, omitting the January patch. This omission raises concerns, especially given Samsung’s promise of seamless monthly updates to minimize downtime.

The initial firmware files, exceeding 24GB (significantly larger than the S24 Ultra’s 14GB), are available for download in Europe and the US. While the larger size might be attributed to Samsung’s new virtual process aimed at improving storage efficiency for parallel OS operation, it ironically introduces its own kind of bloat.

While the S25 launch focuses on improved update speed, older flagship models, including the S24 series, will receive the Android 15 update later. SammyFans predicts a mid-February 2025 rollout for the S24 line, with S23, S22, S21, and Galaxy Z series devices potentially updated by the end of Q1 2025.

This staggered rollout leaves current S24 and S23 owners temporarily better protected by their more recent security patches, but the anticipation for the Android 15 update on older devices remains high. Attention will soon shift to the timeline of the Android 16 release and Samsung’s efforts to match Google’s Pixel release schedule for future OS updates. The importance of timely security and privacy updates cannot be overstated.
