**Patna, February 4, 2025** – The Nitish Kumar government in Bihar announced the filling of nearly 7,000 vacant government posts, resolving a years-long impasse caused by legal challenges. A total of 6,341 junior engineers across eight departments and 496 instructors for the Labour Department received their appointment letters in a ceremony attended by the Chief Minister.
The appointments, primarily advertised in 2019, faced delays due to legal battles by aspirants challenging the recruitment process in the Patna High Court and Supreme Court. These challenges involved both contract workers and those with diplomas from non-government institutions. The Water Resources Department, acting as the nodal authority, worked to resolve these issues, ultimately securing approval from the Supreme Court. The Water Resources Department saw the largest number of appointments (2,338), followed by Planning and Development (1,273), Rural Works (759), and Road Construction (503).
Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary attributed the successful recruitment to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s commitment to filling vacant posts and claimed the opposition’s attempts to take credit for the development highlight the government’s success. He also commented on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s upcoming visit to Patna, criticizing his stance on the caste census.
