Tue Feb 04 00:21:32 IST 2025: ## Hyderabad GHMC Slow to Address Illegal Construction Complaints
**Hyderabad, February 4, 2025** – A significant backlog in addressing complaints about illegal constructions in Hyderabad has been highlighted by the Prajavani weekly grievance redressal programme. Over 47% of the 330 complaints received since October 7, 2024, concerning unauthorized structures and encroachments, are awaiting action-taken reports, according to official sources.
The programme, attended by Hyderabad’s Commissioner A.V. Ranganath on Monday, revealed a sluggish response from Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) zonal and circle-level officials. While notices were issued in 93 cases, demolitions were carried out in only seven, with 22 cases receiving High Court stay orders.
The three zones formerly part of the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad – Khairatabad, Secunderabad, and Charminar – received the most complaints. Khairatabad alone accounted for 101 complaints, with Goshamahal circle reporting the highest number of infringements (37).
GHMC Commissioner K.Ilambarithi, who reviewed the complaints weekly, warned officials that delays would not be tolerated and demanded written timelines for action. He emphasized that the reported numbers represent only a fraction of the actual problem. Efforts are underway to strengthen zonal special task forces to expedite demolition actions. The commissioner’s participation in Monday’s Prajavani programme underscores the city’s ongoing struggle with illegal construction.
