**Raipur, Chhattisgarh – February 3, 2025** – A Maoist was killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district on Sunday, police reported. The gunfight occurred in a forest bordering Kanker and Narayanpur districts during a joint operation by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Border Security Force (BSF). The operation was launched based on intelligence regarding the presence of Maoist cadres from the North Bastar and Maad divisions. Security forces recovered a firearm along with the Maoist’s body. Further details are pending as the forces remain at the encounter site.

This latest incident follows the killing of eight Naxalites in Bijapur district on Saturday, bringing the total number of Maoists killed in separate encounters in Chhattisgarh this year to 50. The Bastar division, comprising seven districts including Kanker, has seen the highest number of casualties, with 34 Maoists killed. A previous encounter in Gariaband district in January resulted in the deaths of 16 Maoists. In 2024, a total of 219 Maoists were neutralized in encounters across the state.
