Mon Feb 03 17:56:43 UTC 2025: **Tamil Nadu Doctors’ Group Condemns Walk-In Interviews for Specialist Appointments**

CHENNAI, February 3, 2025 – The Legal Coordination Committee for Government Doctors (LCC) has voiced strong opposition to the Tamil Nadu government’s plan to fill 658 specialist doctor positions, including 207 obstetricians, through walk-in interviews. The LCC argues that this method, announced by the Health Minister, will undermine the healthcare system and compromise fairness and transparency.

The committee contends that the state’s established recruitment procedures, overseen by the Medical Services Recruitment Board (MRB), should be followed. They cite past opposition to similar initiatives, expressing concern that walk-in interviews could lead to confusion and potentially favor unqualified candidates.

The LCC further recommends that new appointments be made to supernumerary positions within the Directorate of Medical Services and Directorate of Public Health to avoid disrupting the careers of existing specialist doctors. They advocate for prioritizing experienced doctors, particularly those with two to three years of experience in Primary Health Centres.

The LCC is urging the government to reconsider its decision and instead adopt a more transparent and structured recruitment process.
