**Thodupuzha, Idukki, February 3, 2025:** The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] commenced its three-day district conference in Thodupuzha, Idukki, on Monday. The event, hosted at Lis Ground, marks the first such conference in the district in 17 years.
A senior CPI(M) leader hoisted the party flag to begin the proceedings. The delegates’ session, to be inaugurated on Tuesday by CPI(M) State secretary M.V. Govindan, will see the attendance of several prominent party leaders, including T.M. Thomas Isaac, K.K. Shailaja, and Elamaram Kareem. A total of 355 delegates are expected to participate.
The conference, preceded by extensive groundwork including 2072 branch meetings, 158 local meetings, and 15 area committee meetings, will address key issues facing the Idukki district. These include land disputes, the rise in wild animal attacks, the plight of tea plantation workers, title deed and construction ban problems, and the implications of the recent Union Budget.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is scheduled to inaugurate the public meeting on Thursday at 4 p.m. There is speculation that C.V. Varghese, the current district secretary, may be re-elected for another term. Party leaders have indicated an expansion of the district committee is also anticipated.
