**CHENNAI, February 2, 2025** – Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) highlighted its academic and career prospects during a webinar hosted in collaboration with The Hindu as part of the Education Plus Career Counselling Series. The event featured insights from university officials and a student representative.
Kadhambari S. Viswanathan, assistant vice-president of VIT Vellore, emphasized the institution’s growth from 180 students in 1984 to over 100,000 students across four campuses today. She noted that the B.Tech program receives over 200,000 applications annually, expecting nearly 300,000 this year, with the entrance exam scheduled for April. Viswanathan also detailed VIT’s Fully Flexible Credit System (FFCS), allowing students to customize their learning experience.
Samuel Rajkumar, director of the Career Development Cell, highlighted VIT’s robust placement program, beginning in the first year and incorporating both quantitative and qualitative skill development. He mentioned annual psychometric tests to guide students, over 800 companies participating in campus recruitment for four consecutive years, and top placement packages reaching ₹1 crore (approximately $120,000 USD) in 2023 and 2025.
Pre-final year student Emily Gilbert described VIT as a “cultural melting pot,” praising the FFCS’s flexibility in accommodating diverse learning styles.
Sasikumar, director of Admissions, provided details about the VIT Engineering Entrance Examination, a 2.5-hour computer-based test covering various subjects, scheduled from April 20-27. He noted that 71 courses across 47 programs are offered. The panel also cautioned against fraudulent admission schemes, urging applicants to access official information only through the university website.
