**Salem, February 2, 2025** – The Kumaragiri Lake in Salem, Tamil Nadu, is set for a major transformation into a tourist destination. Following a ₹20 crore development project under the Smart Cities Mission, the Salem Corporation plans to invest an additional ₹2.62 crore to enhance the lake’s appeal.

The 39-acre lake, a vital groundwater source for Ammapet, underwent significant improvements, including the construction of a compound wall, strengthened bunds, and a walking path to prevent sewage contamination. These improvements have already attracted around 300 daily visitors.

The planned enhancements include removing water hyacinth (₹40 lakh), purchasing a boat (₹55 lakh), building a pontoon bridge (₹15 lakh), installing a musical fountain (₹50 lakh), creating a 3D selfie point (₹5 lakh), constructing a ticket booth (₹15 lakh), and establishing a restaurant (₹20 lakh).

The Corporation will partner with a tourism agency to manage the upgrades and share revenue from entry fees and boat services equally. Tenders for the project will be released shortly. This significant investment aims to boost local tourism and further enhance the value of the revitalized Kumaragiri Lake.
