Sun Feb 02 00:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Pelicans Guard Dejounte Murray Suffers Season-Ending Achilles Injury

**New Orleans, LA** – New Orleans Pelicans guard Dejounte Murray’s season has come to a devastating end. The team announced Friday night that Murray suffered a ruptured right Achilles tendon during their 118-116 loss to the Boston Celtics.

The injury occurred during the game when Murray drove to the basket, missed a shot, and fell to the court in pain. He was immediately ruled out. The loss is a significant blow to the already injury-plagued Pelicans, who are currently struggling with a 12-37 record.

“Extremely difficult, when you see a guy that means so much to our team and puts the work in go down like that,” said Pelicans coach Willie Green after the game. The team is already without star players Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram, and Herb Jones. This season, Ingram, Williamson, and Murray never shared the court together.

Murray’s absence will be deeply felt. Before the injury, he was averaging 17.9 points, 7.4 assists, and 2.0 steals per game – leading the team in assists and steals. He had recently enjoyed a career-best four-game streak of 20+ points, 5+ rebounds, and 5+ assists. The team’s offensive output also significantly suffered in his absence, dropping from an average of 114.0 points per game with Murray to 102.4 points per game without him.

Trey Murphy III, who scored 40 points in the loss, commented on the emotional impact of Murray’s injury, saying, “It hurt a lot… He’s been through a lot already, and it doesn’t help.”

Murray’s recovery from this significant injury is expected to be lengthy, effectively ending his 2023-2024 season. The Pelicans now face the daunting challenge of navigating the remainder of the season without one of their key players.
