Sat Feb 01 21:06:03 IST 2025: ## Mangaluru Man Sentenced for 2020 Fatal Accident
**Mangaluru, February 1, 2025** – A 32-year-old man, Iyyappan D. of Pudukottai, Tamil Nadu, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment and a fine of ₹8,500 for causing the death of a motorcyclist in Mangaluru in 2020. The 3rd Judicial Magistrate First Class, E.S. Suresha, found Iyyappan guilty of rash and negligent driving.
According to the chargesheet, Iyyappan was driving a bullet tanker on February 13, 2020, when he ran over Karthik Mallya, who was riding a motorcycle in the same direction. The accident occurred on the Paduva-Nantoor junction stretch.
The court’s judgment, dated January 31, 2025, included separate fines of ₹1000 each under Section 279 of the Indian Penal Code (rash and negligent driving) and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
